Success means something different to every magician.
Some people perform magic as a hobby. Others become weekend performers while maintaining another career. Some leap into professional entertainment, performing at corporate events, festivals, schools, universities, theaters, and private celebrations.
My own journey has taken me through many of those stages. Today, I’ve combined my background in magic, improvisational comedy, acting, and character entertainment into something much more unusual: performing as a professional magician and Willy Wonka impersonator for audiences in New York City, New Jersey, and throughout the United States.
And I’m still climbing.
From Comedy Magician to Willy Wonka Entertainer
My dream has always been bigger than simply learning magic tricks.
I wanted to become an entertainer who could combine comedy, magic, acting, improvisation, and memorable characters.
One of my early inspirations was Steve Martin. Before becoming internationally known as a comedian, actor, and writer, Martin worked as a magician and performer. His career demonstrated that magic could be part of a much broader approach to entertainment.
That idea has influenced my own career.
Over time, I discovered that my combination of magic, comedy, personality, and appearance created an opportunity to develop a distinctive Gene Wilder-inspired Willy Wonka character.
Today, my Willy Wonka entertainment isn’t simply a costumed appearance.
I combine the character with professional magic, comedy, improvisation, audience participation, and interactive entertainment.
That makes the experience particularly well suited for corporate events, chocolate-themed events, festivals, schools, theaters, universities, promotional events, private parties, and Willy Wonka-themed celebrations.
Becoming a Professional Magician Is Like Climbing a Mountain
I’ve always thought of an entertainment career as climbing an enormous mountain.
At the bottom, everything feels comfortable. The path is wide, the scenery is beautiful, and there are plenty of people around you.
But if you decide that you want to become a professional entertainer, the climb becomes steeper.
There are auditions you don’t get.
Some performances don’t go as planned.
Some investments don’t pay off.
Thousands of hours of practice go unseen.
And there are moments when you wonder whether you should stop climbing altogether.
But every performance teaches you something.
Every audience makes you better.
Every mistake becomes another lesson.
Eventually, you look back and realize how far you’ve climbed.
Learning From Legendary Magician Jeff McBride
At one particularly important point in my journey, I met someone who helped me find a better route up the mountain: Jeff McBride.
Jeff is an internationally recognized magician, teacher, and founder of the McBride Magic & Mystery School in Las Vegas. Becoming his student and receiving his mentorship changed how I approached both magic and entertainment.
A great mentor doesn’t climb the mountain for you.
Instead, they recognize the dangerous paths because they’ve traveled them before.
Jeff helped me better understand my strengths as a performer and encouraged me to concentrate on something more important than simply accumulating bigger and more expensive magic tricks:
Connecting with people.
That philosophy has become central to my work as both a magician and Willy Wonka entertainer.
What Makes a Great Willy Wonka Impersonator?
A convincing Willy Wonka impersonator requires more than putting on a purple coat and top hat.
The character has to come alive.
For me, that means combining my experience in acting, improvisational comedy, professional magic, audience interaction, and character performance to create an experience inspired by the charm, eccentricity, humor, and imagination audiences associate with Gene Wilder’s classic portrayal.
Guests aren’t simply looking at a character.
They’re interacting with him.
And because I’m also a professional magician, magic can become part of the experience.

I’m Still Climbing
Years ago, I imagined success as reaching the top of a mountain and finally seeing the Hollywood sign.
I don’t think about it quite the same way anymore.
There probably isn’t one mountaintop.
Every accomplishment reveals another mountain.
I continue studying magic, developing new material, improving my character work, and finding new ways to combine magic, comedy, chocolate, and interactive entertainment.
The goal isn’t simply to reach Hollywood.
It’s to become a better entertainer with every performance.
And whether I’m entertaining executives at a corporate event, families at a festival, students at a university, or guests at a Willy Wonka-themed celebration, I want people to walk away feeling like they briefly stepped into a world where the impossible could actually happen.
