  1. Look at Their Professional Experience

A professional magician should have substantial experience performing for real audiences.

Look beyond how long someone says they have been “doing magic.” There’s an enormous difference between practicing magic and successfully entertaining an audience.

Has the magician performed at corporate events, private parties, birthday parties, weddings, theaters, festivals, or major venues?

Experience matters because every audience is different. A professional entertainer needs to know how to read the room, interact with guests, improvise when necessary, and keep an audience engaged.

  1. Read Their Reviews and Testimonials

Before hiring a magician, look at what previous clients have to say.

Reviews can tell you just as much about the magician’s professionalism as their magic.

Were they punctual? Were they easy to work with? Did guests enjoy the performance? Was the entertainment appropriate for the audience?

For corporate entertainment and private events especially, reliability is every bit as important as talent.

  1. Look at Their Professional Accomplishments

A magician’s accomplishments can help demonstrate how seriously they take their craft.

Some questions you might consider include:

  • Have they performed at respected magic venues?

  • Have they established or participated in a world record?

  • Have they studied with internationally recognized magicians?

  • Have they entertained major corporations or Fortune 500 companies?

  • Have they received awards or professional recognition?

  • Do they belong to respected magic organizations?

  • Have they performed nationally or internationally?

Not every great magician needs every one of these accomplishments, but a strong professional history can give you additional confidence when making your decision.

  1. Watch Videos of the Magician Performing

Photos are great, but performance videos are even more important.

Watch how the magician interacts with real people.

Are the spectators laughing? Are they surprised? Are they engaged with the performance?

You aren’t simply hiring someone to perform tricks. You’re hiring an entertainer.

A great magician combines magic, personality, humor, audience interaction, storytelling, and showmanship.

  1. Find a Magician Who Offers Something Different

There are thousands of magicians, so ask yourself:

What makes this particular performer memorable?

The best entertainers develop their own personality and performance style instead of simply copying what everyone else is doing.

My own performances combine magic, comedy, chocolate, audience interaction, colorful characters, and theatrical entertainment.

I’m also known for my Willy Wonka-inspired character, Andy Wonka, which allows me to offer something very different from a traditional magician for certain parties, festivals, corporate events, and themed celebrations that will make people remember your event for their entire life.

  1. Choose the Right Magician for Your Type of Event

Not every magician specializes in the same kind of entertainment.

A corporate magician performing at a company event may need a completely different presentation from a birthday party magician entertaining children and families.

Depending on your event, you might be searching for a:

Corporate Magician – Entertainment for company parties, conferences, conventions, employee events, and client functions.

Birthday Party Magician – Interactive magic designed for birthday celebrations.

Family Magician – Clean entertainment that children, parents, and grandparents can enjoy together.

Close-Up or Walk-Around Magician – Magic performed directly in front of small groups during cocktail hours, receptions, networking events, and parties.

Wedding Magician – Walk-around or close-up entertainment for wedding guests.

Willy Wonka Impersonator / Willy Wonka-Inspired Performer – Character entertainment for candy-themed events, festivals, birthdays, corporate events, and special celebrations.

Make sure the performer you’re considering has experience with the kind of audience you will have.

  1. Talk to the Magician Before Booking

Whenever possible, I recommend having a conversation with the entertainer before booking an important event.

Tell them about your event, the number and ages of your guests, the venue, and what you want your audience to experience.

A good magician should be interested in understanding your event, not simply selling you a standard package.

This conversation also gives you an opportunity to determine whether the performer’s personality and professionalism are right for you.

  1. Don’t Choose a Magician Based Only on Price

In Magic, you get what you pay for.

Price is certainly important, but the cheapest magician isn’t necessarily the best value.

Professional entertainment pricing can vary considerably depending on the type of show, location, audience size, travel requirements, date, customization, and the magician’s level of experience.

Sometimes the cheaper magicians lack experience and say inappropriate things on stage that can ruin your reputation, so be careful, and only hire a reputable and experienced Magician to make your event extra special

Instead of asking only, “Who is the cheapest magician near me?”, consider asking:

“Which magician will give my guests the experience I want them to remember forever?”

Your entertainer represents you in front of your guests. For corporate events in particular, choosing someone professional, dependable, and experienced is extremely important.
